Born into a military family, Rita L. Smith moved from base to base. Compensating for loneliness she turned to books, which she credits with her imagination. Rita received an ABSW from Ohio University in 1987. Even while persuing a social work degree, Rita took a creative writing class with Daniel Keyes. After graduating Rita began working in mental health in Columbus, Ohio. In 1995 she left the field.
In 1999 Rita married for the second time. In 2002 due to some health problems Rita quit working. Now she is able to devote her time to writing, her husband and their eight furry children.
While persuing her writing, Rita joined The Y-City Writers' Forum in 2008. She is now co-leader of the writers group. She is currently working on an anthology of her flash fiction and her novel Twilight Dance.
Rita has been published in online journals, such as The Chick Lit Review, The Short Humour Stie, MicroFiction and MicroHorror. She has been in The Y-bridge: An Anthology of Poetry, Fiction and Nonfiction Stories about Zanesville, Ohio's famous bridge by The Y-City Writers' Forum, The Guest and The Blue Diamond Mystery: A Round Robin Experiment.
